Building Communities One Cause At A Time

With over ten years' leadership experience, I help non-profit and for-profit organizations outperform their competitors, acquire needed resources, and helping them find their online and offline voice through determining a central mission or cause.

I work to help build communities one cause at a time through traditional engagement methods (networking, special events) and online channels. My background involves various levels of non-profit administration such as fund raising/grant writing, special event planning, and community mobilization.

My professional background is in community mobilization & outreach on public health issues, specifically chemical dependency prevention and tobacco control. My past work experience (and skill set) in both the non-profit and private sector include

  • Social media engagement, working with brands (and non-profits) on building word of mouth;
  • Grant writing/fund raising/special event planning, raising over $80,000 for several groups and coalitions
  • Event and meeting planning
  • Research on brand- and cause-specific conversation online, identifying key themes and opportunities.
  • Strategy & execution of community organization and mobilization efforts with a diverse range of stakeholders and partners
  • Strong background in public health/public policy advocacy efforts.

Although I maintain connections with the non-profit/social good community through Chicago Net Tuesday, I am currently freelancing in Chicago, Illinois. I also blog about comics, television, and pop culture at Blog THIS, Pal! as well as social media and non-profits for One Cause At A Time. I also write a monthly column and podcast weekly for Comic Related, and blog about tech and non-profits/social good for Chicago Now's One Cause At A Time and the Sherlock Holmes-themed Baker Street Blog.  I also organize the monthly Chicago Geek Breakfast.
